A House fit for the dude.

Came across this article thanks to the LA weekly.  Now I can totally understand if The Big Lebowski is not your kind of movie.  It was one of those films that you either loved or hated, but for a guy like me, it was truly something special.  I personally quote that movie at least once daily and if your like me you would love to own this place.  The Venice bungalows are now for sale!  Six 1 bedrooms cottages on sale for $2,295,000.  How much would you pay to live in a Hollywood location?  Let me know and if you happen to be the lucky one to purchase these homes make sure you find a rug that really ties the room together.

Do you live in a “walkable” neighborhood? Part 1

So some of you may have noticed that I was gone last week.  Last week I went down to San Diego for the Annual Comic Con International (I know I know but what can I say, Im a geek) and you know what we did, walk…..a lot.  Now this is nothing new.  My girlfriend and I have spent nights in LA walking from different shops and restaurants just exploring the city.  In fact some of our very good friends love living in areas like that for that very reason.  Just to be albe to leave your house and walk to the store or to grab a bite to eat is a major selling point.  Thats what caught my eye about this recent Curbed.com article. The 5 most and least walkable neighborhoods in LA.  How important is “walkability” to you?  Let me know and in the mean time im going to start walking some neighborhoods I find walkable.  Lets see what we can find hoofing it.

Caravan Meetings

Hello Everyone!  Today I’d like to start a new tradition, The Wednesday Caravan!

Have you ever wondered how Realtor’s know about listings in the area?   It’s a little secret i’d like to share with you called Caravaning!  Most Realtor’s are members of an association which has weekly caravan meetings.  For us here in Monrovia, we are members of the Arcadia Association of Realtor’s, and every Wednesday morning we meet to see all the new listings.  This is where  Realtor’s go to share listings and let the other agents know what’s for sale.  It is a way for many Realtor’s in the area to meet, learn about new listings, and stay on top of what is hot in the market. It is also a great way for us to get the inside info for our clients, and I want to share some of this info with you.

So, from now on after Wednesday Caravan’s I would love to share with you a little bit about what is going on in the area so you guys can get an idea of what the markets doing.  With that said, Lets begin.

Modern or Traditional

If you like Jose Martinez RE on face book then you may have seen my recent post about Hip Modern Sinks (if you dont I invite you to like it on the home page).  In continuing with that theme I want to ask you guys about a recent article I saw on Curbed.com.  Check it out here.  The Rose House is a perfect example of a sleek modern home, complete with green features and new styling.  What do you guys think?  Love it? Hate it?  Are you traditional? Modern?  What side do you fall on?  Personally I’m a fan.  I could see myself waking up in a home like this, which is important.  You have to be able to see yourself coming home from a long day at work and feeling relief when you see your home.  Too often we look at houses as products for us to buy and sell, which is important especially for a guy like me (I am a Realtor after all) but it’s also important to think about houses as homes.  A place for you to live, work and play.  So what do you think?  Could you have a Christmas in a house like the Rose House?  Let me know.

PS.  In Case you missed it, here’s the modern sink.

Is this your style?

Check out this weeks “home of the week” on Inman news.  Its described as a Mid Century Modern lake house located in New York.  Now I know most of you dont want to think about leaving wonderful Southern California but could you see yourselves living it up in a lake house.  Let me know.  Check out the full article on Curbed.com Here.

May In Monrovia

Last month was a huge month for the city of Monrovia as it celebrated 125 years!  The celebration started with a parade down Myrtle Ave, which gave way to a weekend long celebration which included a concert in the park.  On top of that, Monrovia has also started what will hopefully be a new tradition, an annual Cinco De Mayo celebration.   This is one of the things I love about Monrovia, for a town that’s only about 20 minutes from Los Angeles it still has so many small town qualities.  From the many events like these that happen year round, to the weekly farmers market and street fair it really is amazing how much happens here.  Check out some of these pictures to see what I mean.

Hello and Welcome!

Hello everyone and welcome to the new and improved JoseMartinezRE.com.   For those of you who are new to this site let me take a brief moment to explain what we’re all about.  My goal is to make this website more then just numbers and listings.  I want people to come here and read about what it is like to live in Southern California, own a home, sell a home and how the Real Estate industry affects the world we live in.  Now obviously as a Realtor it is my job to help you buy or sell your home, but as you can see, I want this site to be about more then just that.  I want people to ask questions, start discussions and really think about what home ownership means to them.

Now, even though this web site is brand new and re-designed I will be constantly looking for things we can improve.  Get ready for a living web site that will be updated with new listings, info and blog posts as well as your ideas and questions.  We are at the beginning of something brand new and exciting here so Stay tuned!
